Safe travels during COVID-19

Essential Travel

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends you stay home as much as possible. If you must travel, follow current state and local travel restrictions. Check with the state and local health department at your current location, any locations along your route, and your planned destination for more information. Here are some things to consider before you go and while you are traveling:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
    • Use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Maintain at least 6 feet of physical distance from others.
  • Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze.
  • Wear a cloth face covering in public.
  • Order food through take out or delivery services.
  • If you must stay in a hotel, motel, or rental property —
    • Disinfect all high-touch surfaces (e.g., tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, remote controls).
    • Wash any plates, cups, or silverware before and after using.

State of Hawaii

Persons traveling to Hawaii can enter their information on the State of Hawaii Safe Travels website. All travelers are required to complete a mandatory self-quarantine for 14 days and fill out the 14-Day Order For Self Quarantine form. Persons exempt from self-quarantine can view the order here and email CovidExemption@hawaii.gov for any questions.
